RE: What to do about banking while on the road?
If you do not feel comfortable using the parks wifi go to the local library. We have found that even the smallest towns usually have a library that offers wifi and internet services.
I may be overly paranoid (and also a computer professional) about this but using a public, unsecured wifi for a banking transaction is committing financial suicide. People who steal identities hang out at these places just waiting for you to sign on to your bank and other places. This is how a lot of people get their identities compromised.
The rule is never, under any circumstances, use a public, unsecured wifi for anything but casual internet surfing. Check the weather, the news and facebook, but nothing more than that. Also, do not use ANY publicly-available computer. Every high school kid knows how to place a "key logger" program onto the town library's PCs. These programs record everything done on the machine, for later examination.
Of course, you may get by for years unscathed. Just because anyone COULD hear you, it doesn't mean that anyone IS actually listening. But, holy mackeral, if you do get bitten... YIKES!
RE: Cummins Cooling System Flush
... and not that 100K mile gasket/plastic eating DexcoolHuh??? Oh, no! Now what? I haven't heard about this yet (and, of course, I just spent a fortune on ELC last year.)
RE: Step Problem
The motor will automatically cut itself off it the drag is too great on it. You might try having a helper listen closely to see if the motor tries to run for a second. If it does try to run, then the steps may just be stuck.
Make sure they are lubricated. A drop of oil at each pivot point will do wonders.
Try a sharp tap at all the pivot points to break loose any rust. You might even grab the steps and try yanking out and pushing in. You probably won't move them very much, but it might free them up if they are just rusty.
RE: Step Problem
Check that the ground wire connection from the step to the chassis is clean and secure. Sometimes just the slight movement caused by testing the firmness of a connection can 'cure' it.
Wiggle the plunger on the 'door open sensor' push switch in the door frame to see if it is just a poor contact there. And, since the outer body of that switch makes contact with chassis ground, be sure the body is screwed into the door jamb tightly.
If yours has a magnetically controlled switch, make sure the magnet hasn't moved or fallen off.
Keep in mind that if the step opens or closes unexpectedly and your fingers are in the way of the scissors mechanism... well, you know.
RE: Update on scam--2004 Alfa See Ya
For anybody planning to mess with the scammers, please remember some of them are genuinely bad people. Don't assume that just because they're in Nigeria (or wherever) that they can't find out who you are and retaliate somehow. Sure, the chances are slim, but I think it's probably best to just move on. Think they can't reach out from Nigeraia and make your life miserable?
Think again.
Call out a phisher, get attacked by malware!
RE: Pressure Washer for Washing Motorhome
1. I don't use my PW on my RV, not even on the engine compartment.
2. Just say "Ix-nay" to water spots, and "Nyet!" to hand-drying.
Two easy solutions:
a. Immediately after washing, take a short drive at 60 mph.
-- or --
b. Save a gallon of fuel... just take the leaf-blower to it!
RE: Gel-Gloss wax problem
I have had the same problem a few times, and it has always been because I was hurrying and trying to do too much at once.
Before waxing, run your hand over the surface. If your fingertips pick up dirt or powdery oxidation, you'll have to re-wash, actually scrubbing the surface clean. Allow to dry thoroughly.
A warm, dry day is best. Don't get caught trying to finish that "last little bit" just as the evening coolness sets in.
Make sure the sun is not shining on (and heating) the surface that you are waxing.
Be patient -- especially if hand-buffing -- apply to only a small area at a time. Rub a thin coat in thoroughly; don't slather on a thick coat of wax.
RE: Koni FSD Shocks
Hi, Mark, and welcome aboard.
There has been quite a bit of discussion on shocks here. Just try entering "shocks". or "Koni", or "Bilstein" into the search box in the upper left pportion of this page, just below the RV.NET logo.
You will soon have plenty of info to make you a genuine 'internet expert'!
Good luck.
RE: Homemade Hydrogen Hybred
Anyway, I think I'm gonna hold off on buying this until they start selling the Chinese knock-offs at Harbor Freight for $39.95.
Here's a possible motivation for all those testimonials being tossed around:
Any customer who purchases a Hydrogen-Boost System, either directly from the factory or from an authorized salesperson, becomes eligible for at least $100 sales commission/referral fee whenever they sell another Hydrogen-Boost System to another customer. Subsequent sales produce increase commissions until wholesale pricing is met. Ask us for our dealer/manufacturer presentation.
To collect the commission simply order the Hydrogen-Boost System directly from the factory at a $100 discount, and deliver it to your customer. Or if a customer claims that they were referred to us by you and gives us your salesman authorization certificate number, we will send the $100 referral fee directly to you, upon receipt of sufficient funds and expiration of the 30 day return policy period. Sell five Hydrogen-Boost Systems and yours is more than paid for and you can enjoy a lifetime of fuel savings.
RE: Our entire Aqua Hot failure-fix story
...not a dificult project, no harder than pulling a motor out of car.Sounds like your story proves the old maxim:
"You don't have to be rich to own a motorhome.
And you don't have to be mechanically-inclined to own a motorhome.
But, you doggone well have to be one or the other!"
RE: Grease and rear brakes on MH ?
If those fittings are located close to where the hydraulic brake line connects, then you are probably looking at the "bleeder" port, used when purging the lines of air and old brake fluid.
RE: Newell
Ok, I'll be a fool with $750k in my pocket! But, that is an oxymoron.
Only 3 ways a fool gets big money:
1. Inheritance
2. Lottry winnings
3. Politician
RE: Headlamp replacement. How? (pics)
It sure looks like you might be able to get the corner of a putty-knife under those clips, just behind the lens itself. (If not, you'd better begin giving those mounting bolts their Liquid Wrench treatments now.)
Good grief! How do you aim those headlights if they're off-target?
RE: PPL Motor Homes
Holy Moly, Batman! You sold in only two weeks? Good for you.
And I hope you have just as much good luck on finding your next one, too.
See you on the road!
RE: RV INSURANCE
My auto insurer couldn't even figure out how to write a policy on my coach. They had to consult with their 'commercial division'.
Seems that in each field, only one or two companies are really courting the RV market (WalMart, Flying-J, Progressive come readily to mind) and their competitors just don't seem to "get it" when it comes to RVs.
RE: Motorhome Exterior
If this destroys the finish on your $150,000 motorhome we will give you your $40 back.I believe that you are missing the point. This is not intended for a shiny, new MH.
Those of us who own older coaches with badly oxidized gelcoat are trying this product as a last-ditch measure. (And, by that age, the coach is no longer worth anywhere near $150K.)
RE: good myrtle beach freightliner service tech needed!
Cummins Atlantic - Coach Care located about 32 miles from Myrtle Beach S.P. The name is Cummins, but they work on any kind of coach.
Sparkling clean, brand new facility, 15 miles north of Conway on US-701. They are off the beaten path, so you'll have no trouble getting an appt. Staff is very profesional and knowledgeable. Service was excellent a couple months ago when I was in trouble.
As I recall, they have a tech with a van for doing off-site repairs, in case you can't get to them.

RE: RV Friendly/unfriendly Gas Stations
Just to take this a step further, we were told to leave the premises of two Love's stations in Florida, when we pulled into the truck island side. Our rig and toad would not fit at the car pumps in the front, so went where we normally go, with other truck stops and that was the results. Needless to say, we will not grace Love's truck stops with our presence again.I have never been to a Love's, but I'm curious about "the rest of the story" here, Mr. Texan. Did they give you any explanation of WHY they didn't want your money? Are you saying that RV coaches are not permitted at their truck pumps?
